Cambodia, with its ancient temples and lively natural scenery, attracts many traveller’s year after year. Cambodia, a Southeast Asian country, has numerous ancient temples and the most renowned among them is the Angkor Archaeological Park (a whole city full of ancient temple complexes and other monuments). Besides tourism, travellers have reasons of their own to set foot in Cambodia, be it exploring business opportunities, attending business conferences, pursuing higher education, relocating for employment purposes, etc. Like any other, entering Cambodia requires a valid visa unless they are exempted from obtaining a Cambodia visa to travel to the country.

An important travel document that entitles travellers to enter Cambodia is a valid Cambodia visa. Travellers should have an appropriate and valid visa to secure their entry into Cambodia. Before starting the application process, they have to choose an appropriate visa that suits their travel requirement. Travellers are advised to analyze and understand each visa type.

Appointment-Required Cambodia Visas

Cambodia offers various kinds of visas, such as work visa, business visa, tourist visa, Cambodia e-visa, ordinary visa, etc. Each visa has different eligibility requirements, travel documents and advantages. A few Cambodia visas require a scheduled appointment at the Cambodian consulate or embassy. Being aware of all the visa types and their requirements is crucial to choosing the appropriate Cambodia visa. The list of Cambodia visas that require an appointment are listed below.

Cambodia Ordinary Visa (E Class Visa)

A long-term Cambodia visa requires a scheduled appointment. The Cambodia ordinary visa (E Class Visa) is an ideal option for travellers planning for a long stay in Cambodia. The initial stay duration of an ordinary visa is 30 days, which is similar to a Cambodia tourist visa (T Class Visa) and a Cambodia tourist e-visa (Visa-T). The major difference is that the Cambodia ordinary visa is flexible. Ordinary visa facilitates the traveller to extend the visa for an additional 1, 3, 6 or 12 months, subject to their travel requirements. The one- or three-months extension period entitles the travellers only to a single entry. If travellers leave Cambodia within the one- or three-month extension, the ordinary visa will be invalid and travellers should get a new visa to re-enter Cambodia, whereas a six- or twelve-months extension entitles the travellers to multiple entries.

Travellers opting for a six- or twelve-months extension can enter and exit Cambodia multiple times within the validity of the same visa. Applying for a Cambodia ordinary visa requires a scheduled appointment or visiting the Cambodian embassy or consulate. Before visiting the embassy or consulate, ensure to gather all the visa related documents.

The Cambodia ordinary visa has four types of extensions, which are listed below:

  • Business Visa Extension (EB) allows travellers to extend their visa for employment purposes. Extending the visa for 6 or 12 months requires a proper stamped employment letter.
  • Student Visa Extension (ES) is an extension option for school students. They are mandated to provide the registration documents and the proof of sufficient funds to support their stay in Cambodia.
  • Retirement Visa Extension (ER) is for retired travellers. Documents to prove their retirement in their home country and the adequate funds to support them in Cambodia should be submitted to avail the ER extension.
  • General Extension Visa (EG) is for travellers who are searching for employment opportunities in Cambodia. Travellers can extend this visa for one, three or six months, but not any further. It is a one-time extension visa and it cannot be renewed.

Work Visa

An increasing number of foreign professionals are moving to Cambodia looking for employment opportunities or relocating to continue their employment in Cambodia. Foreign professionals travelling to Cambodia for employment purposes cannot work without a valid Cambodia work permit. This applies to every traveller moving to Cambodia for employment. To ensure a seamless entry process travellers are advised to get a valid work visa or permit to work in Cambodia. The employer will take care of the Cambodia work visa or permit process for the recruited employee. The employee (who has accepted the employment offer in Cambodia) will have to submit all the required documents. Once the application process is approved, the employee will be allotted a scheduled interview at the Cambodian embassy or consulate.

The more suitable long-term Cambodia visa for working professionals is the ordinary visa (E Class) and the EB extension. This visa gives an extension option for 6 or 12 months, which favours the business and working professionals travelling to Cambodia. A major advantage of the EB visa is that it facilitates multiple entries. It entitles the travellers to exit and re-enter Cambodia multiple times within its validity period.

Business Visa

Cambodia is a country with thriving business opportunities, and travellers awaiting to explore the country should get a valid visa. The same conditions apply to travellers who are participating or conducting any type of business-related activities in Cambodia. Depending upon their business travel requirement, they can choose the Cambodia ordinary visa (E Class Visa) or the Cambodia business e-visa (Visa-E). The e-visa is a completely online process and the ordinary visa with EB extension requires the traveller’s physical presence at the Cambodian embassy or consulate. Travelling to Cambodia with a business visa mandates the submission of business-related documents such as a letter from the company stating the purpose of the visit, an invitation letter, a business plan, company registration documents, or other related documents.

Travellers are advised to go through the requirements and limitations of both the mentioned visa types to choose the best-suited Cambodia visa that aligns with their business travel requirements. The validity of the ordinary visa is 30 days, but it comes with an option to extend it to one year. The Cambodia business e-visa is valid for 90 days, with a stay duration of 30 days, which also has an extension option but is not as flexible as the Cambodia ordinary visa.

Student Visa

Students dreaming about pursuing higher education in Cambodia or securing a place to study in Cambodia educational institutes or organizations should have a proper student visa to continue their education in Cambodia. Mostly, the education instructors will help the students to apply for a Cambodia student visa. The requirement for a Cambodia student visa includes the admission proof to a recognized educational institution such as schools, Universities, or colleges in Cambodia. Also, proper documents of previous educational institutions and financial proof of sufficient funds to support their stay in Cambodia are necessary documents for applying for a Cambodia student visa.

A scheduled appointment at the Cambodian embassy or consulate is mandatory to apply for a Cambodia student visa. The Cambodia ordinary visa with ES extension is the best choice for foreign students planning to study in Cambodia. Students applying for an ES extension are mandated to submit the related documents. The Cambodia student visa can be issued for one, three, six and twelve months.

Regardless of the purpose, travellers are advised to look through the details and requirements of Cambodia visa types to choose the best visa that suits all their travel requirements. All the above-mentioned Cambodia visa types mandate visa appointments or interviews for travellers at the Cambodian embassy or consulate. Travellers who are eligible for a Cambodia e-visa can skip the physical visit to the Cambodian embassy or consulate to get an entry permit to Cambodia.
